Introducción: Los pacientes con diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus 1 (DM1) presentan con alta frecuencia eventos hipoglicémicos que pueden llegar a ser severos y generar complicaciones a largo plazo.
Objetivos: Caracterizar hipoglicemias manifestadas en niños y adolescentes con diagnóstico de DM1 asistentes al campamento de verano de la Fundación de Diabetes Juvenil en enero, 2016.
Materiales y Métodos: Estudio descriptivo analítico de corte transversal basado en encuestas autoaplicadas realizadas en 102 niños y adolescentes.
Resultados: Los síntomas que se presentaron con mayor frecuencia fueron astenia y temblor. El horario más frecuente de presentación fue durante la tarde seguido por la noche. Hubo diferencia significativa en los niveles de hemoglobina glicosilada (HbA1C) entre los pacientes que han cursado con hipoglicemia severa y aquellos sin aquel antecedente (7.8% v/s 11.2 %, p=0.013).
Discusión: La sintomatología en episodios hipoglicémicos es inespecífica y se manifiesta en horarios de menor vigilancia por lo que es primordial identificar los factores de riesgo de desarrollarlos y plantear un control metabólico individualizado.
