Abstract

Although there are multiple investigations regarding political parties and their post-dictatorship dynamics in Chile, a void is identified about party registration processes. Through a bibliographic review as well as information from SERVEL, the main trends around the presentation of deeds, formation, registration and dissolution of parties between 1987 and 2021 are reviewed. From this, three periods are established around the attempts of inscription, denominated refoundation, consolidation and replacement. In addition, institutional barriers to entry and permanence stand out, which reduce incentives and stabilize the number of parties, being common phenomena such as mergers, instrumental parties or dissolutions.
