Abstract

This study addresses a current issue in the research agenda in the field of design studies: the search of cross-methodological models that can explain different kinds of design activities, which are distant from the barriers of the classic models. Cognitive and operative processes are analyzed and translated into a network of actors and actants in the different modalities of the design praxis, using as study cases the graphic design, the clothes and textile design. This issue is defined by their relationship systems, the objects they produce, the strategies they use and the dominant ideas of each activity. The general strategy of the research combines the construction of a critical conceptual framework with a descriptive empirical design using a field observation technique known as Replication Protocol Analysis. The results show some preliminary aspect of a methodological model common to different projective expressions, and the complex nature of their constitutional processes. A methodological conceptualization is provided; centered on the idea of “agency” and “projecting network” as a set of actors, actants and discourses present in the processes involved in the different design expressions analyzed.
