The strategic importance of the South Pacific is a product of the internationalization of the opposition between the great powers, as well as the growing economic relevance of the northern sector of the Basin. Due to the growing strategic importance of the South Pacific, it is of prime importance to anticipate those trends both in the field of national security and in economic matters, as well as to establish relationships between the two. We maintain that the participation of Latin American countries in strategic matters in the South Pacific Basin is inevitable, so the analysis and intellectual exchange on them is crucial to face in common agreement the new phenomena of international implication that are occurring in our closest area.
