Abstract

To speak of Graphic Design in Colombia, is to approach a history still under construction given the youth of this space of knowledge, which came to take its first steps only until the early twentieth century due to industrial development, which came to define a new production, aesthetic and communicative language that we now call design. This text intends to approach the life of Santiago Martínez Delgado, one of the first men who with his work came to define in the Colombian context the courses of a new form of expression and communication called graphic design. It is intended to make an approximation that allows to understand the innovative character presented in the life and work of this Colombian designer, supporting the analysis from the historical science from the condition of Lugar de producción (De Certeau, 1993, p. 48), approach to historical time as a reconstruction or representation of a present by means of a process of fictionalization, which builds and evidences a temporal rupture between the past, assumed as Espacio de Experiencia, and the now (present), constituted from a prospective vision of life in the future, Horizonte de Expectativa (Koselleck, 1993, p. 121).
